Most of the time, you won’t know the exact date you got pregnant.
The doctor will do a test which will count the start of your pregnancy journey from the first day of your last menstrual period. This is normally 2 weeks after you have conceived.
What is conception?
You might have wondered what the definition of conception is and is there a difference between conception and ovulation due to the fact that these two happens one after the other. Ovulation is the cycle when you are at your best to conceive a child. Ovulation happens right before conception.
What does conception mean?
It basically means the exact time and date a child was conceived. When the mother has released her egg and the egg is waiting for a sperm.
The sperm can wait there for a couple of days but the egg will be dissolved if the sperm have not come in contact with it within one day. So it is best to have sex before and during ovulation to make sure that a sperm have reached the egg.
When does conception occur?
After the egg has been released, it moves into the Fallopian tube. It stays there for 24 hours waiting for one sperm to fertilize it. If there is no sperm to fertilize the egg, it will move through the uterus and dissolve.
How long does conception take?
You can get pregnant 1 – 3 days after you had sex. It all depends on when you ovulate and if there is a sperm to fertilize the egg. Conceiving does not take long; once the egg has been fertilized the conception process is done!

1: Monitor menstrual cycle frequently:
A woman trying to have a baby should record whether her first days of her period are likely to come the same number of days apart each month. Your period may be irregular, meaning your cycle lengths vary each month, making it a bit harder to know exactly when you will be ovulating.
By monitoring this information on a special calendar, a woman can predict within 2 – 3 months when she might be ovulating, when her egg will be released. A woman’s egg is fertile for 24 hours and a man’s sperm can hang around in the Fallopian tube for about 6 days waiting for the egg.

Women with regular cycles will usually ovulate 2 weeks before her period. Women with irregular menstrual cycles are harder to predict but is usually between 12 – 16 days before the next period. There are a few methods you can use to determine your most fertile days of each month.

A second method is tracking cervical mucus, which involves a woman regularly checking both the amount and appearance of mucus in her vagina. Women who checked their cervical mucus consistently were 2 times more likely to get pregnant over a period of 6 months.
Before ovulating, the amount of mucus increases and it becomes thinner and more slippery; when this happens it can then help the sperm make its way to the egg.

- When you reach an orgasm before your partner does. This releases an alkaline fluid thought to be more male sperm friendly than the vagina’s natural acidity.

- Avoid sex a week before ovulation and have sex only once on ovulation day to keep the sperm count strong.
- Your partner does not wear tight fitted underwear.

- It seems that girl sperm favor a more acidic environment. This is mostly out of your control though eating some foods can increase the acidic pH. Foods such as blueberries, spinach and almond milk.
- When having sex more frequently makes the sperm count less, and this is a good thing if you want to have a girl.
